Use the date printed on the notice of assessment — not the day you opened it. For PTT, the clock starts on "the date shown on the notice of assessment" (PTTA s.19(1)). For SVT, it is "the date of the notice of assessment" (SVTA s.98(6)).

What the estimate covers

PTT: PTTA s.19(1) — give a notice of appeal concerning the minister within 90 days after the date shown on the notice of assessment. SVT: SVTA s.98(6) — written notice of the appeal within 90 days after the date of the notice of assessment.

Receipt is what counts. Your notice is "given" on the date the minister receives it (PTTA s.19.1(1); SVTA s.98.1(1)). gov.bc.ca says your appeal is deemed given if received within the deadline by tracked mail, courier or fax — regular untracked mail is not listed.

No weekend or holiday extension is added. The date shown is the unadjusted calendar date. Check the actual legal deadline before relying on extra time or assuming you are late.

Extensions: PTTA s.19(6) lets the minister extend time only for s.19(1) assessment objections, and the application must be made before the 90 days expire, stating the reason and period. SVTA s.98 has no extension mechanism. This calculator does not prepare extension applications.
